Lydia Clause or Clouse was the daughter of John Clouse and Christina Wolford. The name Clause can be spelled a variety of ways. Lydia was called Liddy, as a child. John Clouse was born on September 8, 1775 in Chester Springs, Chester County, Pennsylvania. Christina Wolford or Wolfford was born in 1780 in Pennsylvania. Lydia Clause was born on January 2, 1812 in Pennsylvania. Lydia married Richard Starkey in 1831 in Turbitt Township, Mifflin County, Pennsylvania. The Starkey family moved several times. The Starkey family moved from Turbitt Township, Mifflin County, Pennsylvania to Cincinnati, Hamilton County, Ohio. Later, the Starkey family moved to Marion, Linn County, Iowa. Richard and lydia were the parents of eleven children, of which we know.

Chrystina Starkey was the first child, born to Richard Starkey and Lydia Clause. She was born in 1833 in Cincinnati, Hamilton County, Ohio. Her nickname was Chrystie, as a child. Chrystina married William Butler. We don’t know where they were married. William was known as Bill, at the time of their marriage. William Butler died in 1874, in Allen County, Kansas. He was buried at the Iola Cemetery, Iola, Allen County, Kansas. Chrystina died on March 19, 1879 in Iola, Allen County, Kansas. Chrystina was buried at Iola Cemetery, Iola, Allen County, Kansas. She was about forty five years old, when she died. Chrystina out lived her husband, William by about five years. We have no other information of the life, death or burial of Chrystina Starkey. William Butler and Chrystina Starkey were the parents of, at least eight children:
Lucinda Butler was the first child, born to William Butler and Chrystina Starkey. Her nickname was Lucy, as a child. Lucinda died in 1875? We believe, she died as a child. We have no other information of the life, death or burial of Lucinda Butler.

The eighth child, born to William Butler and Chrystina Starkey was Della Eva Butler. She was born in 1872. Della Eva was just called Eva, as a child. She married a man named Brown. We don’t know his first name. We don’t know if Della Eva and her husband were the parents of any children. She died in 1957. Della Eva Butler was eighty five years old, when she died. The second child, born to Richard Starkey and Lydia Clause was Mary Anne Starkey. She was born February 19, 1836, in Cincinnati, Hamilton County, Ohio. When Mary Anne was a child, her family moved to Marion, Linn County, Iowa. Mary Anne’s nickname was Polly Anne, as a child. She married William Henry Beebe on January 17, 1856 in Marion, Linn County, Iowa. William’s nickname was Bill, when he was married. William was born on January 24, 1831 in Canfield Township, Mahoning County, Ohio. William Henry Beebe and Mary Anne Starkey were the parents of nine children. He died on June 7, 1905 in Central City, Linn County, Iowa. William Henry was buried at Oak Hill Cemetery, Central City, Linn County, Iowa. Mary Anne died in 1921 in Central City, Linn County, Iowa. She was buried at Oak Hill Cemetery, Central City, Linn County, Iowa. Mary Anne was eighty five years old, when she died. She out lived her husband, William Henry by sixteen years. Richard Starkey and Lydia Clause’s third child, was Cyrus G. Starkey. He was born in Cincinnati, Hamilton County, Ohio. Sometimes people spell Cyrus, Syrus. His daughter spelled it, Cyrus. He married Sarah Benson Mason on May 5, 1861 in Springfield, Greene County, Missouri. The couple was married, by Sarah’s Grandfather, Jesse Mason. He was a Baptist minister in the Greene County, Missouri area. Sarah was nicknamed Sally, as a child. She was born in 1844 in Boone, Greene County, in the state of Missouri. Even before, the Civil War broke out, Cyrus joined the local militia or the home guard. Later, he became a member of the regular Union Army. Cyrus fought in many battles in Missouri and Arkansas. He was a farmer, by profession. Cyrus was given land in Kansas, because of his Civil War service. He and his wife, Sarah moved their family to Severy, Greenwood County, Kansas. On June 27, 1879, the area was the target of a bad thunderstorm. Cyrus was reaching out of an upstairs window, to tell the farm hands to get the cows into the barn. He was struck by lightening and died. Cyrus died, right there in Severy, Greenwood County, Kansas. He was buried in Severy, Greenwood County, Kansas. The child, Sarah gave birth to, after her husband’s death, was named for her father, even though she was a girl. Her name was Cyrus Arvilla Starkey. Sarah was the mother of a number of small children, and then, had another baby. She was forced to give up the farm in Kansas, that they had worked so hard, to build up. Sarah moved her family back to Springfield, Greene County, Missouri. We have no additional information on the life, death or burial of Cyrus G. Starkey.

Rueben or Ruben was the fourth child, born to Richard Starkey and Lydia Clause. He was born on February 24, 1839, in Cincinnati, Hamilton County, Ohio. We don’t know who he married, or where they were married. We don’t know if Rueben and his wife, were the parents of any children. When the Civil War started, Rueben joined the army on the Union side. He fought in many battles. Rueben was wounded during the war; but we don’t know how or where he was wounded. Rueben died on March 27, 1922 in Cassville, Barry County, Missouri. We have no further details, about Rueben Starkey’s life, death or burial.

The fifth child, born to Richard Starkey and Lydia Clause was Rushia Starkey. He was born on April 11, 1842 in Fairbanks, Sullivan County, Indiana. Rushia married Celica or Cecelia Fuzey in Fairbanks, Sullivan County, Indiana. We don’t know, when they were married. Celica was born in 1848 in Manchester, Delaware County, Iowa. Rushia and Celica were the parents of several children. Celica was died in Severy, Greenwood County, Kansas. She was buried at Twin Grove Cemetery, Severy, Greenwood County, Kansas. Rushia enlisted in the Union Army, at the start of the Civil War. He fought in a good many battles. We don’t know, of which military unit, he was a member. Rushia died on August 8, 1918 in Severy, Greenwood County, Kansas. He was buried in Twin Grove Cemetery, Severy, Greenwood County, Kansas. We have no other information about the life, death or burial of Rushia Starkey.

We believe, that there were two children, born to Richard Starkey and Lydia Clause, who died as infants. These children, would be the sixth and seventh children, born to the couple. They were born in 1844 and 1846. We don’t know how they died. They may not have lived long enough, to receive names. We don’t know, for sure, where they were born.

The eighth child, born to Richard Starkey and Lydia Clause was Hamilton Starkey. He was born on November 20, 1848 in Cincinnati, Hamilton County, Ohio. Hamilton married Elizabeth Anne Michael in December of 1869 in Delaware County, Iowa. Elizabeth Anne was called Betsy, as a child. Elizabeth Anne was born on August 6, 1853 in Ogle County, Illinois. She died in Albion, Boone County, Nebraska. Elizabeth Anne was buried at Rose Hill, Albion, Boone County, Nebraska. We found two men, who fought for the Union Army, during the Civil War, with the name of Hamilton Starkey. We don’t know, if this Hamilton Starkey is one of those men. Hamilton died on February 23, 1907 in Albion, Boone County, Nebraska. He was buried in Rose Hill Cemetery, Albion, Boone County, Nebraska. Hamilton was sixty years old, when he died. We have no other details of the life, death or burial of Hamilton Starkey. Hamilton Starkey and Elizabeth Anne Michael were the parents of at least five children:
William F. Starkey was the first child, born to Hamilton Starkey and Elizabeth Anne Michael. He was born in 1874 in Manchester, Delaware County, Iowa. William was called Billy, as a youth. He died in 1888 in Manchester, Delaware County, Iowa. He was buried in Manchester, Delaware County, Iowa. William F. Starkey was only fourteen years old, when he died. The eleventh child born to Richard Starkey and Lydia Clause was Joshua Starkey. He was born in February of 1857 in Milo, Warren County, Iowa. Joshua married Hannah Lucinda Eschelman in Milo, Warren County, Iowa. Joshua and Hannah were the parents of one child. Hannah was called Lucy as a child. She was born in 1853. We don’t know where Hannah was born. She died in 1934 in Albion, Boone County, Nebraska. Hannah Lucinda Eschelman was buried at Rose Hill Cemetery, in Albion, Boone County, Nebraska. Joshua died in 1918 in Albion, Boone County, Nebraska. He was buried at Rose Hill Cemetery, in Albion, Boone County, Nebraska. We have no other information of the life, death or burial of Joshua Starkey.
Joshua Starkey and Hannah Lucinda Eschelman were the parents of Arthur Raymond Starkey. He was born in 1884 in Albion, Boone County, Nebraska. Arthur Raymond was called Ray, as a youth. We don’t know who he married, or where they were married. We don’t know if Arthur and, his wife were the parents, of any children. Arthur died in 1918. He was thirty four years old, when he died.
