Robert Lowry Doran was the son of Alexander Doran and Elizabeth Lowry. Alexander Doran was born on June 2, 1760 in the state of Maryland. Elizabeth Lowry was born on April 28, 1763 in Augusta County, Virginia. Robert Lowry Doran was named after his grandfather, Robert Lowry. Robert was called Bobby, as a youth. The Doran family was Presbyterian by faith; and Robert was an active member of the church.

At the beginning of the War of 1812, Robert enlisted on the American side. He was in several battles. Robert was honorably discharged in 1814, at the end of the war. Robert married Elizabeth Lowry on May 19, 1812 in Abingdon, Washington County, Virginia. Elizabeth was always called by the nickname of Betsy. She was born on August 19, 1790 in Abingdon, Washington County, Virginia. Robert’s mother and wife had the very same name. They were distant cousins. Robert and Elizabeth were farmers, by trade. The couple moved their family several times. First, they moved from Abingdon, Washington County, Virginia, to Johnson County, Tennessee. Their next move, was to Warren County, Tennessee. Finally, they moved to Clay Township, Greene County, Missouri. Later, Clay Township was annexed by Springfield, Greene County, Missouri. Robert Lowry Doran and Elizabeth Lowry were the parents of 15 children, that we know of, right now.

Elizabeth Doran was the first child born to Robert Lowry Doran and Elizabeth Lowry. She was born in Abingdon, Washington County, Virginia. Robert Lowry Doran and Elizabeth Lowry’s fourth child was Campbell Doran. Campbell was called Camp, for most of his life. He was born in 1819, in Johnson County, Tennessee. Campbell was a farmer by trade. He married Ellen in 1852 in Warren County, Tennessee. We don’t know Ellen’s last name. Ellen was born in Abingdon, Washington County, Virginia. Ellen’s family had moved to Warren County, Tennessee, at some point. In 1853 or 1854, Campbell and Ellen moved their family to Clay Township, Greene County, Missouri. Their children were: George 1845, Jabez 1847, Thomas 1850, John 1851, Elizabeth 1854, Mary 1857 and Joseph 1859. We have no additional information about Campbell Doran’s life, death or burial.

Margaret Doran was the fifth child born to Robert Lowry Doran and Elizabeth Lowry. She was probably named for her paternal great grantmother, Margaret Gordon. Margaret’s nickname was Maggie. She was born in 1819 in Johnson County, Tennessee. Margaret married a man named Keyes. We don’t know his first name. We don’t know if Margaret and her husband, were the parents of any children. We have no other details of the life, death or burial of Margaret Doran.

The sixth child born to Robert Lowry Doran and Elizabeth Lowry was William Doran. As a youth, he as called Billy. He was born in 1821/22 in Warren County, Tennessee. The ninth child born to Robert Lowry Doran and Elizabeth Lowry was Jane Doran. She was called Janie, when she was young. Jane was born in 1827 in Warren County, Tennessee. John Harvey Doran was the eleventh child born to Robert Lowry Doran and Elizabeth Lowry. John was called Johnny, as a youth. He was born in 1828 in Warren County, Tennessee. John was a farmer, and a carpenter, by trade. He supervised the building of Fort Springfield in Campbell Township, in Greene County, Missouri, at the start of the Civil War. John, also served in the militia. John kept a journal though out his life. The only one that was saved, was the one, that was used during the Civil War. In his Journal, he wrote of the activities in the community, the Civil War, his work, his parent and his in-laws. John married Jane Caroline Mitchell on July 13, 1854 in Springfield, Greene County, Missouri. They were the parent of nine children. He died on January 20, 1898 in Springfield Greene County, Missouri. John was buried at Maple Park, in Springfield, Greene County, Missouri. John was sixty nine or seventy years old, when he died. His wife, Jane Caroline Mitchell outlived her husband, John by thirty four years.

The twelfth child born to Robert Lowry Doran and Elizabeth Lowry was John Lowry Doran. He was born in 1828 in Warren County, Tennessee. He may have been the twin, of John Harvey Doran. He was called Lowry, as a child. We don’t know who Lowry married, or when they were married. We don’t know, if Lowry and his wife were the parents of any children. We have no further information of John Lowry Doran’s life, death or burial.

Robert Lowry Doran died in 1867 in Clay Township, Greene County, Missouri. He was originally buried, at what they called the home place, at Clay County, Greene County, Missouri. Later, he was reburied at Maple Park Cemetery, in Springfield, Greene County, Missouri. Robert was 80 or 81 years old when he died. Robert outlived his wife, Elizabeth Lowry by at least one year.
