Families (Doran, Alexander 1760)


Alexander Doran was born on the Second day of June, in 1760, in the State of Maryland. His family then moved to Abingdon, Washington County, in the State of Virginia. Alexander Doran was married to Elizabeth Lowry, in 1781. She was born on the Twenty-eighth fay of April, in 1763, at Augusta County, in the State of Virginia. Please see Families for more information on Elizabeth Lowry, 1763. Alexander Doran held the rank of Ensign, in the American Revolution. He fought in the Battles of Kings Mountain and Eutaw Springs. He served as a Major in the War of 1812. Alexander Doran fought in a number of battles and died in 1814, as a result of his wounds.

Alexander Doran was the son of James Doran, who was born in Ireland, in about 1739. His mother was Margaret Gordon, who was born in Ireland, in about 1740.

Margaret Doran was born on the Tenth day of March, in 1783, in Abingdon, Washington County, in the State of Virginia. She died on the Tenth day of February, in 1867. Margaret Doran was married to James Keyes. They were the parents of David Lowry Keyes and Robert W. Keyes.

Elizabeth (Betsey) Doran was born on the twenty-second day of July, in 1785, in Augusta County, Virginia. We don’t know when she died. She was buried at Elizabethtown, in the State of Virginia. Elizabeth Doran was married to Caleb Smith. They were the parents of John Lowry Smith.

Anne (Nancy) Gordon Doran was born on the Seventeenth day of September, in 1789, at Abingdon, Washington County, in the State of Virginia. She died on the Fourth day of May, in 1863, at Johnson City, Washington County, in the State of Tennessee. Anne (Nancy) Gordon Doran was married to Ezekiel Smith. They were the parents of Naomi Jane Smith Bradley, Louisa Valencia Smith Whittington, Celia Smith Dugger and Jacob Alexander Smith.

James Doran was born in 1790, in Johnson, in the State of Tennessee. He died on the Ninth day of March, in 1852, at Jackson, in the State of Alabama. He was also, buried there. James Doran was married to Orpha G. McCormack. She was born on the Twenty-second day of March, in 1790, at Lincoln, in the State of Kentucky and died on the Fifteenth day of March, in 1855, at Doran’s Cove, Jackson, in the State of Alabama. She was also, buried in Jackson, in the State of Alabama. Orpha G. McCormack was the daughter of John W. McCormack, Sr. and Leannah E.

Janet (Jennie) Doran was born on the First day of September, in 1791, at Abingdon, Washington County, in the State of Virginia. She died in 1839, in Carter County, in the State of Tennessee. Janet (Jennie) Doran was married to John W. Ward. They were the parents of Phoebe Ward Moyers and Althea Ward McClanahan.

William Doran was born on the Twenty-fifth day of July, in the State of Virginia. He died on the Eighteenth day of March, in 1863. William Doran was married to Elizabeth. They were the parents of Alexander H. Doran, Theodocia E. Doran, Orpha J. Doran, Eliza E Doran, William C. Doran, Benjamin W. Doran, Rachael A. Doran, Martha Anne Doran and Edward W. S. Doran.

Rebecca Doran was born on the Ninth day of September, in 1796, at Abingdon, Washington County, in the State of Virginia. She died on the Twenty-eighth day of December, in 1876, at Johnson County, in the State of Tennessee. Rebecca Doran was married to Richard Donnelly. They were the parents of Emeline Jane Donnelly Butler, Margaret Donnelly, and Caroline Elizabeth Donnelly Allen.

John Lowry Doran was born on the Twenty-sixth day of May, in 1799. We don’t know when or where he died.
