Families (Hill, Jane 1794)


Jane Hill was the daughter of Thomas Hill and Catherine Shropshire. Thomas Hill was born on December 22, 1759 in Dan River, Guilford County, North Carolina. Catherine Shropshire was born on September of 1760 in Rowan County, North Carolina. Jane was born in 1794 in the Pendleton District, of South Carolina.

Jane Hill married Silas Harris in 1812 in Greenville, Greenville County, South Carolina. Silas and Jane were the parents of at least two children that lived to adulthood. The first of those was Zachariah Harris. He was born on April 4, 1813 in the Pendleton District, of Anderson County, South Carolina or Greenville, Greenville County, South Carolina. Zachariah married Almira Emily Hill on March 6, 1834, in Macoupin County, Illinois. Almira Emily and Zachariah had four children. He died in 1841 in Geneva, Morgan County, Illinois. Zachariah was buried in Geneva, Morgan County, Illinois. He was only 28 years old, when he died. After Zachariah’s death, Almira married Abraham Owen Smoot. Almira and Abraham moved their family to Salt Lake City, Salt Lake County, Utah.

Benjamin Harris was the second child, that we know of; who was born to Silas Harris and Jane Hill. Benjamin was born in 1815 in Tennessee. He married Mary Anne Williamson in 1835 in Montgomery County or Macoupin County, Illinois. Benjamin Served in the Civil War. He enlisted, when the war started. Benjamin joined the Union Army. He fought in several battles during the Civil War. Benjamin was wounded in battle. He was discharged after being wounded. He suffer from his injuries for the rest of his life. He and Mary Anne were the parents of eight children. Benjamin died in 1871 in Upper Alton, Madison County, Illinois. He was buried in Upper Alton, Madison County, Illinois. Benjamin was 56 years old, when he died.
