Families (Mitchell, Allen 1815)


Allen Mitchell or Mitchel was the son of James Madison Mitchell and Sarah Bunch. James Madison Mitchell was born on May 18, 1784 in Wilkes County, North Carolina. Sarah Bunch was born in 1785 in North Carolina. Allen Mitchell was born on December 9, 1815 in Bowling Green, Warren County, Kentucky. Allen Mitchell married Margaret D. or B. McKee on February 6, 1837 in Bowling Green, Warren County, Kentucky. Allen and Margaret moved their family from Bowling Green, Warren County, Kentucky to Springfield, Greene County, Missouri. The Mitchell family moved after February 6, 1837, and before 1841. Allen appears first in an article, in a Springfield newspaper in 1849. He was in some public office in Springfield or Greene County, all of his life. Allen owned the first mill in Springfield, along with a partner, John Cryner. He had a licence to produce liquor. Allen was a farmer. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge. Allen fought on the side of the Union Army, during the Civil War. He served in a Missouri Regiment. Allen and Margaret were members of the Presbyterian Church. They were also, members or supporters of the Republican Party, as of 1860. Although, women didn’t have the vote yet. Allen and Margaret were the parents of five children, of which we know.

The first child, born to Allen Mitchell and Margaret McKee was Jane Caroline Mitchell. She was born on December 21, 1837 in Warren County, Kentucky. Jane Caroline Mitchell married John Harvey Doran in 1854 in Springfield, Greene County, Missouri. John Harvey and Jane Caroline were the parents of nine children. Jane Caroline died on July 24, 1932 in Springfield, Greene County, Missouri. She was buried at Maple Park Cemetery, in Springfield, Greene County, Missouri. Jane Caroline was ninety four years old, when she died. She out lived her husband, John Harvey by about thirty four years. We have no other information of the life, death or burial of Jane Caroline Mitchell.

Allen Mitchell and Margaret McKee’s second child, was Fayette Mitchell. He was born in about 1841 in Springfield, Greene County, Missouri. He was called Fay, as a child. Fayette married Frances Boone in Springfield, Greene County, Missouri. We don’t know if he, and Frances were the parents, of any children. We have no further details of Fayette Mitchell’s life, death or burial.

Jess or Jesse Mitchell was the third child, born to Allen Mitchell and Margaret McKee. He was born in about 1844 in Springfield, Greene County, Missouri. He was called Jessie, as a youth. We don’t know who he married, or when they were married. We don’t know if Jesse, and his wife were the parents, of any children. Jesse died in 1927 in Springfield, Greene County, Missouri. He was buried at Maple Park Cemetery, in Springfield, Greene County, Missouri. Jesse was eighty three years old, when he died. We have no additional knowledge of the life, death or burial of Jesse Mitchell.

The fourth child, born to Allen Mitchell and Margaret McKee was Martha Elizabeth Mitchell. She was born on November 1, 1847 in Springfield, Greene County, Missouri. Martha Elizabeth was called Patsy, as a child. She married a man named Thompson. We don’t know his first name. We don’t know if Martha Elizabeth, and her husband were the parents, of any children. Martha Elizabeth died on August 3, 1920 in Springfield, Greene County, Missouri. She was buried at Maple Park Cemetery, in Springfield, Greene County, Missouri. Martha Elizabeth was seventy two years old, when she died. We have no other information of Martha Elizabeth Mitchell’s life, death or burial.

Allen Mitchell and Margaret McKee’s fifth child, was James Madison L. Mitchell. He was born in 1853 in Springfield, Greene County, Missouri. James Madison was known as Jimmy, as a youth. We don’t know who he married, or when they were married. We don’t know if James Madison, and his wife were the parents, of any children. We have no further details of the life, death or burial, of James Madison L. Mitchell.

Allen Mitchell died on November 29, 1877 or 1878 in Springfield, Greene County, Missouri. His grave stone says 1877. He was buried at Maple Park Cemetery, in Springfield, Greene County, Missouri. Allen was out lived by his wife, Margaret McKee by about 28 years. We have no additional knowledge of Allen Mitchell’s life, death or burial.
