Hugh Smith was born on the Fifth day of December, in 1745, in Scotland and died on the Seventeenth day of March, in 1823, at Cumberland Valley, in the State of Pennsylvania. He was buried at the Big Springs Presbyterian Cemetery, at Newville Borough, Cumberland County, in the State of Pennsylvania. Hugh Smith was the son of John Smith, who was born in about 1700, in Ireland and Elizabeth, whom we don’t know much about.
Hugh Smith came to the British colonies in America, in 1765 from Ireland. He was also, a member of the Continental Army, from Cumberland County in the State of Pennsylvania, in the American Revolutionary War.
Hugh Smith was married to Elizabeth McCormick on the Twenty-second day of February, in 1784, at Cumberland County, in the State of Pennsylvania. She was born in about 1764, at Lancaster County, in the State of Pennsylvania. They were the parents of:
1.Samuel Smith was born on the Thirtieth day of October, in 1791, at Lancaster County, in the State of Pennsylvania and died in 1856, at Moro, Madison County, in the State of Illinois. He was married to Ruth Duncan, on the Thirteenth day of June, in 1820, at Cumberland County, in the State of Pennsylvania.
2.Joseph Smith was born on the First day of June, in 1801, in the State of Pennsylvania. and died on the Twenty-sixth day of January, in 1869. He was married to Rebecca Duncan, who was born on the Twelfth day of October, in 1811, and died on the Twenty-first day of December, in 1894.
